I understand passion especially when it comes to Religion because I have such strong feelings towards mine.
But I do not understand why God-fearing people would approach potential brothers and sisters with straight out mean comments and accusations.
The Shopping centre
One afternoon whilst walking into the doors of our local shopping centre I was approached by a man with a Jesus flyer and the first things out of his mouth were:
“You are going to hell.”
So I stopped and looked at my 5 and 6 year old children which also heard what the man said.
I replied, “Don’t say that to me especially in front of my kids, who do you think you are?”
“If you haven’t accepted Jesus then you will be going to hell.”
I thought for a moment that I could start a conversation with this man but I had no time.
So I replied, “Do you know that you are not going to Jannah.”
He looked at me and said, “What is Jannah?”
So I walked off and said, “Look it up.”
Why would someone have so much enthusiasm to go out and preach but know nothing about other religions is beyond me.
Evangelical Christians have always used shock and awe tactics
There used to be a flyer around which stated that;
Either Jesus was God or a liar
I read it and thought to myself why can’t he be a prophet, or as some people believe The Son of God why are only two options given and both are extreme options.
Many times Evangelical Christians, especially Jehovah’s Witnesses come to my door and try to explain to me that Jesus died for my sins and if I accept him as my personal saviour that I will be granted paradise.
I always reply that;
“I am Muslim and believe in one God that is not a man and not part of his creation so you cannot convince me to worship any other but God, the same God that Jesus worshipped.”
They almost always come back with;
“But how do you have your sins forgiven or Jesus said the only way to God was through him.”
We usually go back and forth on different topics; and once they really upset me because I don’t like being told that I’m going to hell.
So I replied; “How can Jesus save me when He couldn’t even save himself according to your bible.”
Trying to sell a religion
It must be hard trying to sell a religion or set of beliefs. People are very smart. The idea of no punishment for sins in the afterlife is like a free ticket to some but others see right through it.
Jesus wouldn’t have taught the disciples to pray if all of our sins were forgiven. What use is prayer?
And if people really believed that there was no punishment for their sins what is stopping them from sinning or causing harm.
As a Muslim I could imagine the shock if I arrived at some random door and told the people that they were going to hell.
Or even just opening the door and seeing me when I have a full beard would be a shock to most.
There is no compulsion in religion so we cannot force someone to believe what they do not.
Surat Al Baqarah 256
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût and believes in God (ar. Allah), then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And God is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
