I am just a genuine guy from sunny Scotland | Welcome to a new friend: The BEST You Project

Creating a better you through lessons learned and Shared

I am just a genuine guy from sunny Scotland who is sharing some valuable lessons he’s learned in life. Feel free to take it or leave it. I’ve found over the year that a lot of people out there need a little help or a little guidance and all I am doing is trying to reach as many people as I can to help them improve how they view their own life and the world around them. I try to share useful tips and techniques that I’ve used myself and hope that many people use these to make the most of their lives.

Everyone has their troubles and challenges in life, some more than others. A lot of the time though people dwell on their problems and negativity rather than appreciating all the good things they have and having a positive outlook. Most of my blogs are just basic tips on how to appreciate what you have, to make happier about yourself and how to set yourself up for success.

Watch Me!

August 29, 2013

When someone says you can’t achieve something, that there is something that you’ll never manage to do … there are only two words you need to say back … “Watch Me!”.

I left school at the age of 16 with no higher qualifications and by the age of 19 I was in an extremely mundane dead-end job listening to all those people who said I couldn’t do something special with my life. Listening to all those people who made out I was stupid just because they had no ambition themselves.

Then one day I decided to prove them wrong, I decided to prove to myself and to the world that I was capable of much more. I handed in my notice and decided if I wanted to make something of myself I would have to go back to college.

Every time I told friends or family I was doing it the message back was resounding “what’s the point in that”, “what a waste of time” and “you’ll never get a degree”. It was deafening … but it didn’t stop me.

Sure a few people said well done and a few believed I could achieve great things and that was supportive, my mum being one of them but the overall consensus was “you’re wasting your time”.

But I kept going and day by day, month by month my self-belief grew. My confidence in my own abilities soared … and 4 years later I proved all the doubters wrong standing proudly with my degree and a world of self-made opportunities at my door.

15 years on from the day I announced I was quitting my job I am now a business executive living in a home I only once dreamed of having with 2 beautiful kids and an amazing wife.

Moral of the story – believe in yourself or nobody else can. Don’t listen to doubters and go out there and make things happen.

This is your life, don’t let others fears and judgements hold you back … you have the key and power to do whatever you choose so make your choices wisely and make them happen.

Show the world what you’re made of!

The BEST You Project – 5 Week Summer Challenge

July 5, 2013

If you are unhappy with your weight, size or even attitude then please feel free to take part in The BEST You Project’s 5 Week Summer Challenge. Open the attached file and join in the challenge.Best_You_Project_-_5Wk_Challenge

After having developed what can only be described as the start of a beer gut I decided to kick The BEST You Project into full swing with an opening 5 Week Summer Challenge which will focus on getting fit, eating healthy and staying motivated.

I have already roped in a crowd of friends from work to take part in the challenge with me (making it public makes it easier to stick to). The challenge is to start making the Best You possible by working each day towards reaching the weight you want to be, the size you want to be, and feeling happy and confident with a spring in your step.

The core message here is taking small, simple steps to slowly make the dream become reality. One day at a time, you don’t have to run a marathon on your first run. Do what you can each day and build it up day by day.

Your food intake can be slowly reduced, your exercise gradually increased, and your positivity and focus enhanced one day at a time. View the challenge in a positive manner and I firmly believe that anything is possible. It wont happen over night but as long as you celebrate your daily successes and all progress you make you will continue to be motivated to continue.

Nervous Breakdown before Dinner | Welcome to new friends: Amy and Sara

We can’t do it all, but we do a lot…here’s just a slice

The Sisters

Sara and I are about as opposite as two people can get. We came from the same batter but the cakes turned out to be different flavors. She was my first friend and all of my childhood memories include her.  Perhaps molded from her birth placement as the oldest of three daughters, she was born to be a nurturer and caretaker .  Her one and only dream growing up was to be a wife and mother.

Like George Bailey (this makes me Harry) she was born an old soul and spent most of her adolescence caring and worrying about her friends and classmates. Spending many an hour reading young adult Christian romance novels and filling her hope chest (while her friends were out partying)  embedded a passion for a home to keep one day.

Always a late bloomer, Sara finds herself just over 40 and a mother to three boys ages 0-6.  She is a self-taught cook that turns out gourmet tasting meals from ingredients that are on hand. Cooking is her happy place and only hobby.  As a mom on a budget the only shopping she really does is for groceries but she enjoys it (as long as it’s with out the kids). She’s always been a thoughtful crafter and creative soul. I call her often to hear about her meal plans, or text her a photo of something I’m working on to get her input or advice. You’ll be inspired by her contribution to this blog and you’ll laugh at the delivery. Enjoy a “slice” of her life…

Honestly, Amy

37361_407825580761_4138254_n   My earliest memory was this little thing called, “Amy Grace” coming home from the hospital. She was a shy and quiet little gal for the first year and then…..the sparkle happened. My middle sister is a textbook middle child with a twinkle in her eye and a gift. In our teens when most people were perturbed to have their kid sister tag along-I was grateful ’cause anywhere Amy is -is where you want to be. She is an adventurous soul, she loves to entertain and adds brightness to any room she enters.

Although we started out wearing mostly “sister” dresses as children-our taste and style could not be more different. Amy has always had a great eye and been able to choose “the” piece – whether it be the addition of a scarf, vest or ring-or selecting that timeless item to build a room around. I must admit some of my best pieces are ones I’ve shopped from her home or closet!

A.G. is a busy mother of three girls. She does the real mom stuff I never do -like playing games, sledding and eating lunch with them at school.  She has been a” working outside the home Momma” as well as the stay at home kind and does them both so well. She is a natural organizer-and her closet looks like mine is always supposed to.

Amy’s cookin is spicy and full of flavor!  I love the way she cooks a few meals on Saturday to use thru the week! She is a relaxed hostess with the mostess and you always feel welcome at her home.  There is never a dull moment in her life and I know you will enjoy whatever slice she serves you.

Sincerely, Sara

The Sisters were born in Kankakee, Illinois and spent much of their lives in the Quad Cities. Amy now lives in Northwestern Iowa with her husband and 3 daughters. Sara lives in Southwestern Wisconsin with her husband and 3 sons (If only they had a housekeeper named “Alice”).

Late summer supper and one of my best childhood memories

When I was growing up we had enough. Not everything I wanted and sometimes I had to wait for what I needed. There were times we had plenty and times we had enough.

One dinner late summer when I was 10 or 11, Mom called us for dinner. We have corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes and…fried zucchini.  I thought it was great! Like an appetizer we never ordered on the rare occasion we went out to dinner. I loved it. Mom dipped the slices in egg, dusted with flour and fried in a little veg oil on the stove. I loved them. I remember that dinner–it was before school started, we were all together in a little duplex in Bradley and I was happy. What I didn’t know then is that was all we had…..ALL we had to eat!

Today is a good day! It is a week before school starts–We have grabbed summer by the horns and lived to tell a tale! At church this week there was a table where folks brought their garden abundance to share. I saw boxes of zucchini and took a couple. I can never cook zucchini without thinking of that day. I usually grill them but today we are going to have them the ‘ole fashion way–fried.

Portrait and Glamour Photography | welcome to a new friend: Laszlo Racz

from Laszlo Racz

[Terry: I can’t do HTML well enough to begin to do Lazlo’s photography justice so please visit his website]

The background
racz_laszlo_portraitLaszlo is doing photography as a hobby since his childhood for almost 30 years. He started with a Russian Smena, later on he “captured” his father’s Praktica LTL3 to achive better results. Shooting and developing his own pictures using a film developer station he gained more experience and insight to photography that slowly established his life-long love for taking pictures. Even a full Pentacon Six TL medium-format system can be found in Laszlo’s drawer..

3D graphics
Between 2000 and 2010 Laszlo was actively involved in the creation of 3D generated female models. He had an artistic website dedicated to this called the “House of Digital Beauties”, it was running on the website.
Laszlo is shooting with a portrait-gripped Nikon DSLR camera using rather old (20-40 years) Carl Zeiss Jena lenses (designed for Pentacon Six system) in fully manual mode, because he enjoys “taking” the picture (not just clicking a button). Laszlo usually works on TFCD basis, but he is available for hire as well!

His favorite lenses for doing portrait and glamour photography are:

1. Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar f2.8/80mm
2. Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar f2.8/120mm
3. Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon f4/50mm

It costs money to rent photo studios.. if you like my work, please, send a donation of 10USD to support the making of new photos! Let me give you something in exchange: a photo not posted on this site from any gallery you choose (one photo per donation)! Motivated enough? :)

[Terry:  The eggs remind me of a story. My daughter was about 5 and she announced that she was going to perform an experiment to see if the Easter Bunny was real. She would dye 11 eggs and leave one white. Then the Easter Bunny-if real– would color the egg. Well, with a brand-new packet of swirl-sparkle egg color, the Easter Bunny pulled this off for two years. On the last year, the EB had been working late and ended up in a CVS at 2am. The special egg was done in fingernail polish and looked like something from the Sludge Bunny.   But we managed two years and that’s not bad.]

Dear Aerie,

Dear Aerie,

Recently, your ad interrupted by viewing of Pretty Little Liars. Yes, it’s a secret addiction. I guess it’s not a secret anymore.

So. There was this pretty blonde girl with flowing, perfectly wavy strands.

Also she had a pillow.

Also she was in her underwear.

I guess it’s a “cute” ad? Maybe guys would like it.

As for me, I laughed. There were just a few things wrong with your ad, and I’d like to address those right now.

  1. If I were to sit at home alone on my bed with no pants, I guarantee my hair wouldn’t look like that. Also, my abs would not be visible because, dude, dessert. I mean, duh. Also, no makeup, whaddup lazy.

  2. Do people really match their bra and undies? If I were to do that, I’d feel like I had life perfectly figured out and it’s super obvious that I don’t. I find it an accomplish just to put on a bra, let alone make it match my other underclothes. (Is underclothes an actual word? I was unaware until this moment.)

[Yes, cats, “underclothes” is a word but only applies to women in the 15th Century and before.]

Hi, I’m an up and coming author. I have a soon to be published novel and wish only for everyone to enjoy it. As a bonus I will be posted short stories among my blog posts for your personal enjoyment. I graduated high school in 2010 with honors and Ontario Scholar and have been trying to figure my life out ever since. Once I started my fantasy series I was addicted and couldn’t stop. Alright, problems arise with the Transparent Death of Sinoy and it will be postponed for now. I will enlighten you with further notice regarding it later. As for now, I have a new short story that is my personal favorite. Please enjoy it as much as I did!

The Butterfly Casket

By Terrin Jarrell

Barry tugged at the sheer silk cloth, exposing the body under the harsh overhead lamplight. The lips were tugged closed; a piece of heavy twine looped through the dead, cracked lips with the uneven lack of expertise of a college student too bored to bother in the concept of perfection. Only a thin layer of lip balm covered the cracks rippling through the once sultry lips of the late Mrs. Palmina Holmes. A thick purple shadow flowed across her grey eyelids to cover the already bloating of her face, and a bright pink blush was added to the high cheekbones giving a strange sense that the woman was still alive and merely sleeping. Barry took the tip of his pen and held one eyelid open. A lifeless, blank milky eye stared back at him and he noted she once had beautiful brown irises that had been bold with ambition and success, with a hint of adultery hovering beneath everything. But that was something best left alone when talking to her husband. Barry didn’t need to drag Palmina’s problems back to life. Those things made his job harder. Much harder. He dropped the eyelid and it slowly closed shut.

“Is…is she really dead? Detective Marsh?” asked Mr. Holmes. Barry could hear the man ringing his hat with his hands, the squeaky squelching echoed throughout the room. He could feel the strains of a new headache coming on. Another day, another dead body.

“Very. In fact, judging by her corpse she’s been dead quite a while. Do you own a freezer? A walk-in one perhaps?” Mr. Holmes looked stunned, the wringing of his hands stopping.

“F-freezer, Detective Marsh?” Barry looked up from his notepad, eyebrows held high as he awaited an answer. But Mr. Holmes just stared at him.

“Mr. Holmes, do you or do you not own a walk in freezer?”

Yes,” he said wringing his hands again.

“Good. Then can we all argue that you harboured Mrs. Holmes body in the freezer until you had time to eat her?”

“Marsh, what the hell are you doing?” questioned Philsby standing by the door. Barry smiled and snapped his book closed.

“Nothing. I am truly sorry for your loss Mr. Holmes. We shall do everything in our power vested to find and catch this killer plaguing the streets of our sweet beloved town of Boleyn. As for you, I would advise in refraining from leaving as the killer might want to finish up what he or she started. But probably a he,” Barry said. He left the confines of the little morgue freezer and quickly stepped out into the evening air. It was brisk, chilly, something that Barry was never used to.

“Barry, what the blue hell was that? The man lost his wife to a killer for Christ sakes and you’re badgering him about being a suspect. Dammit, forensics been through and through on this,” yelled Philsby angrily.

“Yes, through and through. You tell me each day. But do you not find it odd in a home that a man lived in, not a single strand of his own DNA could be found?”

Philsby looked nearly shocked, his face turning purple as he struggled with what emotion to carry out next.

“Barry, please. Please, please, please tell me they only transferred you here for less than a year? You’re giving me a headache and it’s only been three months.”

“Mmm, yes. Boleyn is a strange little town,” Barry said not truly paying attention to Philsby.

“Just stay away from Mr. Holmes for now. An escort will be at his house should he need it but I think you need to get home and rest. You look tired.”

“Six people have been murdered by the being deemed as the Boleyn Demon whose preferable hour of carnage is precisely midnight. When he sleeps, then shall I sleep too. But it is coming up to fifteen past eleven and I say my work is only starting,” Barry said checking his wristwatch.

The Merchant Devil Part 1

The Merchant Devil

By Terrin Jarrell

Valerie Dalton knew she was going to die. It was an inevitable fact that she could not escape. But that did not stop her from lying to herself that it was going to be alright. She thought she had led a good life, but in her final days, it was becoming more apparent that wasn’t entirely true. At the underwhelming grand age of twenty-four she’d accomplished absolutely nothing in life and the only thing she understood was being a terrible daughter and a worse girlfriend. Thinking of Jack sent a wave of nausea and upset ripping through her stomach. Watching a stream of blood flow out of her nose, she picked up a filthy blue rag off the dirty motel room floor and dabbed dully. She was dying of course, and it was all due to that man. That dreadful man with the too-wide smile that seemed to know everything yet revealed nothing. Wearing a black suit and white tie, he managed a rather old time respectable and almost handsome look if not for that smile, that seemed to be plastered to his face like drywall.

“Excuse me ma’am, I believe you dropped this,” he had said to her with a smile.

So charming at the time but she had felt a stir of unease and an almost urge to flee the scene, flee his smile. Instead she returned a flashy array of white teeth with what she’d hoped was her most pleasant waitress smile and said,

“Thank you.”

“My pleasure.”

3 Pillars of Selling More Books Online | Digital Book World

The 3 Pillars Of Selling More Books

by Beth Bacon

Strategies for creating best sellers take time.

Strategies for creating best sellers take time.

In the digital book marketplace, individual authors fight in the same ring with legacy publishers. The big publishers have an advantage: the power of their reputations grabs the notice of readers. Indie authors and publishers struggle for any attention at all. The “little guys” can overcome this disadvantage if they build their careers around three strategic pillars: brand curation, relationship marketing, and, finally, creating quality books.

Pillar 1: Brand Curation

Successful authors don’t just write books. They build their careers. Bestselling authors don’t become a household name on the sales of just one book. (Okay, there’s Harper Lee, but To Kill A Mockingbird is an epic exception). Successful writers become known within their niche. They build series, work in a single genre, and develop a clear, focused brand.

Know your audience

Authors who sell a lot of books know their readers. Elmore Leonard recently passed away at age 87. In its eulogy of the late, great crime writer, the business radio show Marketplace ran an old interview with Leonard  in which a reporter suggested he should write about Wall Street. After all, he joked, the place is full of criminals. “But I don’t write that,” Leonard replied without even pausing, “My people don’t have stock. I think it’s the most boring thing in the world.” Leonard knew his audience and wrote for them specifically.

Center it all on your website

A major part of curating a great career is running an effective web site. High-selling authors treat their online presence like it’s the hub of the universe—because, for their fans, it is. Take a look at John Green’s Tumblr page. Green is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, and other YA novels. His posts are fun, educational, and often have nothing at all to do with his books. But they all have everything to do with the worldview of his teen audience. Green uses YouTube and Twitter and a bunch of other social media vehicles as avidly as the  teenagers who read his books. But his single Tumblr web site connects to them all. It’s his hub, the one solid place his fans can track the many balls that John Green juggles.

Be yourself

Finally, to have a great career as a writer, don’t be trendy, be yourself. Erotica is big right now. But if you are more comfortable writing PG romances, don’t add titillating scenes just to jump on the racy bandwagon. Stick with your voice, be true to your own sensibilities. Readers are very canny at picking up inauthenticity.

The Last American Wizard

It’s a story that could be ripped from today’s headlines except that the enemy is mystical and the weapons are magical.

There are no vampires and werewolves in this book–only very real people with very UN-real talents. A journalist who becomes America’s Last Wizard, Politicians who begin to show their essential natures as elves and dwarves, a haunted smartphone, and the oldest program at the National Security Administration–codenamed “Barnaby”.

Imagine Tom Clancy‘s tough and nuanced spy craft were mixed with a lot of Jim Butcher‘s wise-cracking wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden and a touch of Kim Harrison‘s pixie witchcraft but in the end, it’s a completely unique experience.

SFHC Author Feature! Scott Powell: Creating Fighting Scenes

Leonardo Ramirez : August 27, 2013 7:42 am : Featured Creators

Welcome to Science Fiction for the Human Condition, the website of Science Fiction/ Steampunk author, Leonardo Ramirez. We’ve opened our doors to feature the work of authors and artists alike and this time we are featuring something a little bit different. Instead of answering our questions, we’re honored to have Scott Powell with us on a stop of his blog tour along with his wife, Judith.

Scott Powell and Judith Powell are husband and wife writing team.  Their books include The Last Enchantress available on kindle and Rebel available this fall check them out on their blog here:

Scott Powell here co-author of The Last Enchantress

Since I can remember my father has been involved in martial arts. He started when he was in the Air Force and took Tae Kwon Do where he became a second degree black belt. He later became very involved in Kick Boxing and then started to learn other styles where he eventually landed into Reality Based Street Fighting.

Creating Fighting Scenes pic 1So through those years I became one of his students that was lucky enough to be experimented on over the years in which I learned different fighting styles. With those experiences I simply translated them into the fighting scenes of The Last Enchantress. Obviously some of the scenes are embellished based on the fact that characters have super natural abilities.

Writing the fighting scenes was one of my favorite parts of the book feeling it helped the story evolve and bring the characters alive.

Below is one of Judith’s favorite fight scenes:

Kate had made a terrible mistake thinking that she could take me on. But I had noticed that, like her father, arrogance ran deep within those unloving veins.

I rushed forward, and Kate’s eyes blazed with rage. This was good. She was allowing her emotions to control her moves. Battles were often lost because of emotions and not due to a better strategy. I used some of my magic to make a picture fall, causing Kate to look. I then jumped and landed a flying side-kick right into her chest. It had been some time since I had used my martial arts skills, but it was time to shake off the dust and get this done. Kate slammed into the back wall, screaming like a wild boar without control. She picked up a couple of pieces of the marble floor. Looking at me, she crushed them into dust. I guessed she was sending me a very clear message of how she really did not like me.

Front Cover tle kindle

Well, the feeling was mutual. As she stood, I moved one of the chairs nearby with my energy and cast it at her. I knew this would do nothing accept annoy her, but I wanted her to come at me carelessly. This would give me the upper hand. She crushed the chair and lunged at me.

What 55+ Year Olds Can Teach the Rest of Us about Happiness |Catching up with The Happsters

[Terry: I’m just wondering what they can teach a 60+ Grumpy Old Man, but that’s just me.]

What 55+ Year Olds Can Teach Us About Happiness

A recent study found that people over the age of 55 tend to be happier than any other age group. So what can the rest of us learn from them?

1. Stress Less

hamock catSource

A lot of us have jobs that lend themselves to stressing too much and playing too little. Do yourself a favor and don’t take yourself (or your work) so seriously. Of course, you still need to work hard, but take time to not only enjoy what you’re doing, but also take breaks when you feel overwhelmed. Go for a short walk outside or talk to a friend. Many people over the age of 55 are near retirement and have learned to not stress over work issues and are happier for it!

2. Smile More

What 55+ Year Olds Can Teach Us About HappinessSource

Did you know that those aged 35 to 44 smile less than any other age group? Shockingly, 5% of people in that age group admit that they never smile! Can you imagine not ever cracking a smile? More than 50% of those over 55, however, smile more than 10 times a day. As I mentioned in this post, smiling can reduce blood pressure, release endorphins, and is actually contagious! So if all else fails, surround yourself with happy people!

I’ll leave you with some great advice from a few happy seniors:

Find Joy in the OrdinarySource

“You are not responsible for all the things that happen to you, but you are completely in control of your attitude and your reactions to them.” ~ A 75-year-old man

“Adopt a policy of being joyful.” ~ A 84-year-old man

“I learned to be grateful for what I have, and no longer bemoan what I don’t have or can’t do.” ~ A 90-year-old woman

What age do you think you were the happiest? Do you think you’ve gotten happier as you’ve gotten older?

A stomach full of travel adventures | Welcome to a new friend – Ron Evan

The Travel Monster

Hello friends! You can call me Ron or Evan, either way would do. Actually I am really introvert by nature, in that sense I am more able to Hi Friends!express myself through writing. I thought of doing a blog in the past, however, I am too lazy to do it since I am also busy doing stuffs in school, and now I am already working. However, I am really happy that it materialized now.

I was just browsing through different blogs across the world and I was so inspired seeing all their travelling experiences. I told myself, well it would be lovely if I would be able to share my travel experiences to the world. I’m 21 as of the moment, and my passion about travelling started when I was 17. However, even when I was still younger, like 9 or 10 years old, I really enjoyed reading books about Geography. Whether you believe it or not, I even memorized all the capitals of different countries, I’m that obsessed! Up to now, I have several apps on my Iphone regarding Geography, I have here maps, World Factbook, Travelpedia, etcetera.

Of course, aside from travelling, I do have lots of interest, from singing, to television shows, movies, something on sports, cars, latest technology and gadgets, current news, and many others; so I might be posting entries regarding those things too. 9 Reasons Why You Would Like To Travel Solo

A man alone in the beach

A man alone in the beach

While it’s wonderful to share a special trip and new experiences with friends, a partner, or family, there’s a compelling case for travel alone from time to time. Solo travel can work for anyone, whether you’re single, in a relationship, extroverted, or introverted, and here are 9 good reasons why you should try it. This entry is a re-post from since I found this one pretty awesome and on the spot! Enjoy reading.

1. Simple logistics

It can be challenging to coordinate a trip and time away from work with another busy person in your life, and it’s even more difficult when you try to make plans with a group. Usually, these challenges can be overcome by simply planning far in advance, but if you find yourself with some down time and you can’t find a travel partner on short notice, it may be the perfect time to pack your bags and go anyway.

2. Work on your bucket list

Is there something you’ve been dying to try that no one is willing to try with you? Maybe you’d like to go skydiving over the Grand Canyon, see ancient Mayan ruins, or simply eat real Maine lobster. When your partner and friends don’t share every one of your interests, that’s OK, but it’s not OK to sacrifice your dreams, especially when all you have to do is get there.

3. You’re great company

If you rarely spend significant time alone, you may be surprised at how enjoyable it can be. When was the last time you truly listened to only your thoughts and entertained only your dreams? Depending on the destination, a solo trip can be a powerful, introspective, life-changing experience. Imagine sitting on a peaceful beach at sunset or taking an invigorating morning hike without having to make conversation with anyone.

4. Meet new people

If you’re a born extrovert, traveling alone can be a wonderful way to meet locals and make new friends. Often, people who are alone appear more approachable to others. Before you know it, you could be chatting with some interesting folks at a sidewalk cafe or even joining a group of like-minded people for yoga on the beach. The key is to keep an open mind while keeping safety in mind, especially in a foreign land. Chances are, when we travel alone, we also meet another traveller who is alone who would seem to be really interesting.

5. Do everything you want and nothing you don’t want

Have you ever been hesitant to do that half-day at the spa you were longing for because you felt bad leaving your travel partner with nothing to do? When you travel alone, you are not obliged to entertain anyone but yourself.  If you want to “waste” the day sitting at an outdoor bar drinking mojitos instead of sightseeing, you won’t have to answer to anyone.

Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is the seat of government of Monaco. Though it sounds to be a capital of the small country, it is not. Monaco as a whole is a city state located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by France and is also very near Italy. Monte Carlo houses the the worlds largest yacht charter companies and of course, it hosts the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Monte Carlo also has a variety of world class shops with top notch brands and a Grand Casino where the richest gamblers flock in.

Must Have Boxes – | Welcome to a new friend – Kristin

I’m a 20-something year old fashionista and pop culture junkie. My fast-paced corporate career keeps me busy, but I always make time for my true passion…blogging! When I’m not writing or snapping photos, I enjoy spending time with my cute pet bunny Patreezy and my even cuter boyfriend Nick ;) .

After receiving my first beauty box last year, I was officially hooked. What better (and more affordable) way to discover amazing products designed just for women? It’s exciting to open a pretty little box packed with the latest beauty, fashion, and fitness must-haves. I spread the word among my friends, and they fell in love too.

As new subscription box companies launched, it got difficult to keep up. That’s what inspired me to create Must Have Boxes. I’ll give you a sneak peak at up-and-coming brands and I’ll post detailed box reviews. You won’t find any fluff here – just straight talk about the products that work best and make me feel beautiful.

So relax, take a look around and discover your monthly must haves.

My Promise:

  • I’ll never place banner advertisements on my site. I’m not trying to profit from your clicks and I only feature content that I truly believe in.

  • I don’t receive monetary compensation for my reviews, but I do accept free boxes or products. My honest reviews reflect my own experience and they aren’t influenced by outside sources.

  • I’ll personally respond to every single comment, always. I love hearing from my amazing readers!

Color Me Monthly Review – August 2013

by Must Have Boxes on August 26, 2013

Company: Color Me Monthly

Category: Nails

Cost: USD $7/month, free shipping

About: “Become a CMM member and get GORGEOUS nail polish delivered to your door every month. Each box contains a surprise color that’s always in-season and in-style.”

The Scoop: Each month, you’ll receive a full size bottle of nail polish that features the season’s latest fashion and color trends. You can subscribe to a one month, six month or yearly plan and you have the ability to cancel at any time. Color Me Monthly also offers gift options to make your life easy.

Summer Tryst
“Until days grow short, promise to meet me at sunset, where salt meets the sand”

Wow! This gorgeous plum lavender shade is perfect for summer. Purple is such a hot color right now, and one of my all-time favorites. The Color Me Monthly formula is the ideal consistency for nail polish and it’s super quick drying. This shade would be worn with a daytime or nighttime look and it would pair especially well with a colorful summer maxi dress. I love the card with the featured haiku too. The idea it speaks to is…oh-so romantic. Swoon.

The August Color Me Monthly nail polish is a total winner. It’s important to me that my nail polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde/formaldehyde resin, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). This small company is dedicated to producing non-toxic, eco-friendly products, and I’m happy to support that. Other high-end nail polish brands retail for USD $8.00-9.00 per bottle, so the monthly cost of the subscription is very fair. I can’t wait to see what Color Me Monthly delivers next!

What do you think of Color Me Monthly? Interested in subscribing? Let me know!

Watanut Review – August 2013

by Must Have Boxes on August 23, 2013

Category: Health, Snacks

Cost: USD $25/month, free shipping

About: “Watanut is a fast, easy way to discover healthy snacking. Whether you’re in training, trying to eat healthier or just a fan of fresh nuts, dried fruit and mind-blowing mixes, Watanut makes nutritious snacking simple.”

The Scoop: Each month, you’ll receive a box featuring four of Watanut’s healthy delicious custom snack mixes. These real food mixes are fresh and flavorful – a rarity in today’s world of processed snacks. From trail mixes to granola, Watnut makes it easy to snack right on the go. Plus, a portion of the proceeds from every Watanut box is donated to a local Boys & Girls Club. I love a company with a positive mission!

I’m a self-proclaimed healthy snack enthusiast, so I was excited to try my first Watable box. The smartly branded box with the quirky nut design is so much fun! When I opened the package, I was met with four amazing looking snack mixes. And now, for the much-awaited taste test…

Thru-Hike Mix

The 6.0 oz Thru-Hike Mix features cranberries, roasted almonds, and roasted and salted cashews. This balanced combination of salty and sweet is absolutely delicious! The whole nuts provide great texture and the cranberries deliver the perfect fruity bite. If you’re going on a hike or simply searching for the perfect post-workout snack, then be sure to have this nutritious mix handy.

The Happy Nut :) Mix

The 6.0 oz The Happy Nut :) Mix features roasted salted pistachios. I love the pure taste of fresh in-shell pistaschios. Yum! I used a few of these to top a spinach salad tossed with imported balsamic vinegar. The pistachios added a nice savory crunch to the delicate salad. You definitely need to try this.

Wild Bill’s Buffalo Mix

The 6.0 oz Wild Bill’s Buffalo Mix features buffalo peanuts, unsalted peanuts, buttermilk ranch pretzel bits, and sunflower seeds. Don’t let the name of the “buffalo” peanuts fool you. These savory peanuts are enclosed in a sweet, crispy coating. That flavor is perfectly paired with the buttermilk ranch pretzel bits. Warning: this snack is so tasty, you may eat the entire container in one sitting!

A Walk in the Woods

The 6.0 oz  A Walk in the Woods Mix features rolled oats, honey, brazil nuts, cashews, coconut, and cinnamon. Looking for the perfect yogurt topping? This is it! The coconut flakes provide a bit of island flavor which goes perfectly with the cashews. This chewy granola has spice and everything nice. :)

Watanut totally delivers on its promise of delivering healthy, delicious mixes! The $25 per month cost may seem on the more expensive end, but when it comes to food, you always get what you pay for. I expect high quality ingredients come at a slight premium and I’m more than happy to invest in snacks that are nutritious and pure. Watanut is a convenient subscription service that takes the guesswork out of snacking. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Do you love to snack? Interested in subscribing to Watanut? Let me know!

Let’s see what’s inside!

Sequence Collection Love Knot Metallic Bracelet
Value: USD $40.00

Sequence is a collection of jewelry and accessories inspired by the Latin American culture and designed by Ariela Suster. Each piece of vibrant handcrafted jewelry is produced by local artisans in Tepercoyo, El Salvador. Sequence provides much-needed employment opportunities for at-risk youth and the company is committed to enriching the local community by offering art and other cultural classes. The Love Knot Metallic bracelet blends high fashion with rustic craftsmanship to create a piece that is ultra sleek and modern. I’m in love with the golden metallic color scheme and the knot has a very nautical feel. This bracelet is perfect for stacking and mixing with Sequence’s other bracelet styles too.

Beyond Borders Haitian Metal Art Small Bird Wall Art
Value: USD $9.95

Metal sculpture was born in the Haitian village of Croix-des-Bouquets where chisels, dies, and a large hammer are used to cut and mold the designs from oil drums. This gorgeous 6″ x 5″ metal wall art sculpture is handcrafted by Haitian artist Cineus Louime. Louime’s art focuses on his love of nature, in particular birds and trees. He was introduced to metal sculpture at an early age and eventually opened his own shop where he now perfects his creations. I love the intricate detail, from the bird’s feathery wings to the sharp point of its beak. This wall art would look beautiful hung in an outdoor garden or somewhere else close to nature. There’s something special about the care that has been put into making this piece.

Total box value: USD $49.95

  • Sequence Collection Love Knot Metallic Bracelet – USD $40.00
  • Beyond Borders Haitian Metal Art Small Bird Wall Art – USD $9.95

The August Fair Treasure Box is fabulous! I’m totally smitten with both pieces which are hand crafted and sourced from different parts of the world. The Sequence Collection Love Knot Metallic Bracelet is the perfect summer accessory and the Beyond Borders Haitian Metal Art Small Bird Wall Art brings life to any space where it’s displayed. Plus, the purchase of these one-of-a-kind products helps small businesses that really need our support. The value of the items is more than the cost of the box, which is always a plus too. :)

Aren’t these handmade products incredible? Interested in subscribing to Fair Treasure? Let me know!

Ghazal calls forth saddness.
The rain begins to fall,
listen to its music
I go play with my stones…
Harmony from Earth
balancing them calms my soul
sometimes banal actions sooth.

500 |Catching up with The Better Man Project

Posted on August 25, 2013

I sit here and know that there is something special and different about this day. Years ago, I started writing, exactly like I am doing here right now, with the intention of putting down my thoughts for 30 days and trying to become a better man. Each time I read my book ( this year to edit, I was reminded of that first month of confused honesty and from where I once began. I remember the anxiousness I would have, one that still exists, when I knew I was ready to write something down. Whether it was happiness, pain, confusion, or motivation…I would still sit down at my desk and put my heart on the line. I remember those days…in fact, I remember the past 499 days of writing clearly. Any post could be brought to my attention and I could tell you what was going on in my life at that time and why I wrote what I did. I don’t know if that’s normal, but that leads me into this post and what I want to talk about today.

That’s right. Normality is the most commonly traveled path to mediocrity. And for me, mediocre is precisely what I don’t want to be. I don’t want to be second place…third place…top 10. No, I want to be the best at something. And I am starting to figure out what that something is. And here’s the thing, you have to do things outside your comfort zone to even possibly start to understand what “your best” looks like. And when you get to that point, you must start reinventing yourself again, and again, and again…and do the things that other people will not do…so you can become a person and maverick like no one else has ever seen. The Better Man Project has taught me that lesson over and over emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It has taught me how much work it actually takes to improve your life. Trust me, it’s rough. Developing standards for yourself and living up to them can be exhausting at times. But those standards came deep within your heart and they are part of your internal plan on how to become a champion. You can’t ignore them.

500 days of writing. It blows my mind a bit. But it closes a very long chapter in my life and has given me the opportunity to write a completely new story off of the one that I am very proud of. I am proud of where I have been, how far I have come, and how much my life has changed for the better. It was grueling at times, but I suffered through those times and turned out on top. If you suffer the pain of sacrifice today, you will feel the warmth of victory tomorrow.

So what can you look for from me in the next 500 days. Innovation and reinvention are coming. Change is going to be present. The launching of an incredible journey. There will be an ongoing push to achieve this dream that I have. And for a good reason I am not telling you what it is. I am going to show you.

Evan Sanders

Ronald L. Sanford | Catching up with

Rob Hamilton wrote about Ronald L. Sanford

January 19, 2013

Written by Rob Hamilton

Ronald L Sanford

Marion County, Indiana. 1987. The two elderly sisters had made it clear that they did not want their lawn mowed. But the sisters’ refusal didn’t stop Ronald Sanford and his friend entering the house with intent to steal. If the two criminals couldn’t make money honestly, they’d make it anyway they could. During the course of the burglary, the elderly sisters were murdered.

On the 14th April, 1989, in Marion County, Ronald Sanford was convicted and sentenced to 50 years for the murder of one sister, 50 years for the murder of the other sister, 50 years for Robbery involving serious bodily injury and 20 years for Burglary. The judge stated that all sentences would run consecutively, meaning a total jail time of 170 years. To date (2013) Ronald Sanford has served 24 years and is due a parole hearing in the year 2070.

At this point you may think he deserved everything he got. In fact, some may feel that he should have faced the death penalty for murdering two elderly women, and under normal circumstances, not too many people would disagree with that – but these are not normal circumstances.

No. These are a long way from being normal circumstances.

Ronald L. Sanford was born February 12th, 1974, making him 13 years old when he entered the sisters house. Two years later, he stood in front of a judge in an adult courtroom at the age of just 15. Found guilty on all counts, he was sent to Indiana State Prison to spend his formative years in the company of hardened criminals.

The treatment of Ronald Sanford at the hands of Marion County raises several questions.

Star Wars Shoes! | Geeks are Sexy Technology News

This Week In Geeky Ladies’ Footwear

Ladies, this is your week in feet.

You don’t really have to be a design geek to love these Pantone-colored Louboutin concept heels, but you’d have to be a sadist to hope they never exist. For now, the shoes are just mock-ups, but designer Christian Goldemann hopes to unite Pantone Universe and Christian Louboutin to make them a real thing. Given that Pantone currently work with Sephora to offer eyeshadow, lip gloss, nail polish and eyeliner, these shoes don’t seem like a huge leap for the company.

For those who have something less theoretical in mind, these comic book heels are really real and purchasable, which is great because they’re awesome. Whether you wear heels or not, you have to admit that they’re good-looking, and when presented with so many run-of-the-mill black and nude pumps, it’s nice to have the option of a print and detailing to set your tootsies apart from the crowd.

You can get the Scott Pilgrim shoes and Grimm Fairy Tales heels from HeroComicAccessories on Etsy. If you’re not into walking around balanced on a tiny peg all day, there are also Wonder Woman and Superman ballet flats available.

And lastly, though these are probably not in stock, Beauty for the Geek has a whole stunning collection of custom Star Wars shoes in a variety of height and designs.

Youtube and little Marc Jacobs

What’s up girls?

So today I’m here to say (really quickly I pinky promisse) that I feel like I’m not going to post youtube videos for now ! I know it’s a lot easier to watch stuff rather than just read all this things that I writte but please try to understand me !! First I’m really shy so I would be really nervous every time I go to stay in front of a camera !! And also I don’t have that much time to commit and upload lots of videos like weekly and stuff !! I’m so sorry for that !! That’s it … I think maybe to get a little more interesting I could post about a new perfume that I bought and thought it is so delish and also a new pair of sunnies (basicly I’m loving him) !

Oh Lola by Marc Jacobs’

So todays post it’s going to be all about some of my all time favorite series !! Hope you guys enjoy it and please make sure to comment which ones you’ve already watched and also some of your own favorite ones and telling me  why !!

1- Elementary

So this serie is really amazing ! It’s sort of a police investigation tipe of show but with a little twist cause the main character is very smart and he solves crimes with his intuition and it’s cool to watch how he pays attention to the little details to solve it and also it’s funny so basically it’s a great show !! If you are interested and want to check that out the link is here !

2- Friends

I know this is a pretty old show but  I just love wathcing it !! It’s so funny and demonstrates really well a few things of 5 friends lifes that are really intriging also it’s really impressive that I haven’t watched all the episodes …It’s bad but lately I didn’t have much time to catch up on my favorite series even on television !! Here it is .

3- The Carrie Diaries

OMG guys I started watching it online I think 2 weeks or so ago and it’s jus PERFECTION !! It’s about Carrie Bradshaw’s life (for who doesn’t know is the woman from  SEX AND THE CITY with blonde and curly hair) and it’s about fashion, following your dreams and boys and some hairy situations that goes on a teenage girl’s life ! The link .

4 – Big Bang Theory

If you want to laugh really hard this is the show for you to watch ! I must say I’m in love with Sheldon (ok he’s not handsome but I don’t care he’s so so funny hahaha) !The story it’s about Penny who moves to the apartment in front of Leonard and Sheldon( two physicists) and they live amazing adventures haha !! The link .

4- Revenge

This one is really intriging and it’s about a girl called Amanda whose father was killed and she goes back to city where the responsibles for his murdered live searching for REVENGE ! She even chnges her name and buys the house where she used to live with her dad (which is a few miles from the Grayson’s house) and she takes down everyone who tries to stop her ! The link .

5- 2 Broke Girls

“Two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business – if only they can raise the cash.” It’s a story of Max (She had a poor life since she was a child but she learned how to deal with it also she works at a cafe shop) and Caroline(who was a really rich girl but her dad broke down and it’s in jail ,so she has all her things sold and has to learn how to earn her own cash) and they met in the halfway ! Even the story kind sounds sad it’s really funny ! The link .

6- Switched At Birth

This show is really cool I watch it every sunday and I can’t lose one episode ! It’s about two girls who were switched at birth(obviously) but  there’s a tricky thing cause their life was to different from each other. Daphne was raised by a single mom who had drinking problems and her grandma and she bacame deaf when she was a child as for Bay she was raised by the Kenishes and always lived with all the luxurious things ! The link .

Time to meet the Oceanids… | Catching up with Isabel Burt

Novels of fantasy and flight

As promised last week, here’s a little snippet containing the Oceanids to keep you entertained.

Hopefully you will be able to read the WHOLE story before too long. I really am working very hard to prepare it for you to hold in your hand…meanwhile let’s go join Felicity as she meets the ANCIENTS – the elder Oceanids of great wisdom who help guide Reuben and the quest group…

English: Oceanides (Naïads of the Sea)

English: Oceanides (Naïads of the Sea) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

English: zoomed and cropped close up of four O...

‘These Oceanids are the oldest living creatures to inhabit the Old World,’ said Pippi. Looking at the scarred, barnacle-encrusted body of the one who spoke, Felicity could believe it. They were staggered along the shore like ships coming in to dock, and all were a greyish colour. She supposed their energy had gone into their size. It was not polite, she knew, but it was hard to find something beautiful about any part of them. They had tiny eyes, and an indistinct mouth right at the bottom of their square-shaped heads. When they spoke it dropped down onto the sand like a ferry ramp. She had not really thought about the first two she had met. There had been so much else to focus on, like surviving. But now, in this bare place, and faced with eight all looking her way, it was impossible not to notice detail. Especially as she had discovered the shallow cave behind offered no refuge.’

See you next time!

Thorsten Heins just revealed the device onstage at BlackBerry Live, but we’ve got all the details ready to share with you below.

I’ve been using this device for a few days now and I’m already in love. It fits into my lifestyle perfectly offering the powerful experience I need and allowing me to flow seamlessly from task to task throughout my day.

Highlights and features of the BlackBerry Q5

How To Scan a QR code or an NFC tag (BlackBerry Q5 Smartphone – 10.1)

The NFC feature might not be available, depending on your wireless service provider, your administrator’s settings, and your BlackBerry device model.

When you scan a QR code by using the Smart Tags app, your device saves the information as a smart tag.

When you scan an NFC tag, your device presents options for viewing or saving the information. You can view or save the information in the Smart Tags app. You might also be able to view the info in another application such as the BlackBerry Browser.

Do any of the following:

  • To scan a QR code, open the Smart Tags app. Tap . Hold your device so that all four corners of the QR code appear on your screen.
  • To scan an NFC tag, tap the back of your device against the NFC tag.

Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly. ~  Franz Kafka

Short version:

Russian-Armenian-American solo Nomad.

I’m a Writer, Photographer, Actress, Dancer, Model & a Dual Citizen.

Backpacked solo through Africa, lived in 8 countries and traveled to over 30 countries, in 4 continents… before my 30th Birthday.

On my journey I got to share dinners & laughs with everyone, from homeless people, to Presidents, Hollywood icons & Royalty.

Here’s a couple of highlights;

I walked with lions in the wild

Bungee jumped into a river full of alligators, got in a fight with a female baboon, zip-lined, ATV’d, hang on the edge of the most dangerous pool in the world.

My jeep got chased by a lion.

I used every public transport imaginable in Africa. ( matatus, buses, camels, horses, jeeps, canoes, shared taxis and boda-boda’s anyone ? )

Got really, really close to gorillas in Uganda.

Missed planes, trains, buses and will probably miss my own wedding. ( anyone said “wedding”?!! oh shit!! well, who knows, crazier things have happened )

Stepped over the railing at “The Peak” in Hong Kong. ( those who’ve been there, probably having a heart attack as they reading this )

Jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, in the middle of one of the coldest winters in Russia. ( who skydives for the first time in winter?!! )

I’m a self-made woman.

I don’t wait for life… but run towards it with my soul wide open.

Even though life has kicked me around and dragged me through mud on more than one occasion,

it taught me how to dance without ever touching the ground…

And for that, I’m forever in her debt.

Don’t Sweat It ?

What do you see in those pictures ?

What do those images say about a woman in them ? Can you say that a woman in them “sweats” the small stuff ?

Is this woman a nervous type or doesn’t take risks ?

Do you catch yourself saying ” Oh, I envy that gal! What a life! I want that! ” ?

Before you read the rest of this piece, I want you to answer at least one of those questions.

“The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks,
the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice.
Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable;
they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed.” ~ Ernest Hemingway
